India's Case for
Women Empowerment
(and how it affects our children)
Malnutrition in India has dropped from 43.5% in 2005 to 29.4% in 2015. This can be attributed to a decrease in open defecation, and an increase in institutional births and Vitamin A supplements for children.
However, rural India has a long way to go in improving malnutrition and infant mortality rates in the country. Most solutions aim to improve the health and nutrition of children in the first five years of their lives, but overlook one critical stage: the quality of the mother's life prior to, and during, pregnancy.
This project aims to visualize various aspects of the mother's life, which could play a role in improving the life of her children. The factors are juxtaposed against the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Literacy Rate in the state.
All the data is taken from the National Family Health Survey (2015-16) at the state level, and only rural regions of states are taken into consideration.
Hover over and drag the map around different states to compare their statistics on literacy, antenatal care and IMR.
